Using Fresh News® Cat Litter
How To Use Fresh News®
Cat Litter
- The type and location of your litter tray is very important to your cat or kitten.
- Choose a litter tray that is the correct size for your cat or kitten, taking into account the number of cats using it (increasing the number of litter trays to suit the number of cats you have).
- The litter tray should be made of non-absorbent material, like plastic, to prevent odors being absorbed and for easy cleaning. After prolonged use the litter tray will become scratched making it more difficult to clean, so it is recommended that the tray is replaced at this stage.
- Choose a location for the litter tray that is both secure and private. Avoid busy areas in the house where the cat will be disturbed or where it is overlooked. Some cats prefer a covered tray for added security. It is also important to sit the litter tray away from the feeding area.
- Maintain 2-3 inches of Fresh News® cat litter for pawing and covering.
- Frequently remove the soiled area where the swollen pellets are located just as you would with ordinary clay litter.
- Empty and wash the litter tray periodically with warm water and a mild detergent between litter changes.
Changing Litters
Some cats have a difficult time changing litters. If your cat does not readily accept Fresh News®, follow this simple transition schedule:
- Week 1 – mix 1 inch of Fresh News® in with your cat’s current litter
- Week 2 – mix 2 inches of Fresh News® in with your cat’s current litter
- Week 3 – 3 inches of Fresh News® all by itself
